I am not really sure why but for a long time we are taught not to use black. As children wearing black wasn’t the norm, as an artist we are taught not to use black as it sucks the color out of its surroundings, in decorating black is oppressive, black homes are creepy and until the goth movement came [and went] black seemed to hang in the realm of fetish wear.

Well black is out out of the closest and in the most unusual ways for home design.

Its the new color for exteriors, very fashionable as feature walls and even making its way into landscape garden designs. With the improvements in paint technology there are now so many shades of black in various textures too. For my first time, I’m using black in our own home – curtains, blinds, carpets, wallpaper and exterior trim!

Below is a collection of black decorating I have in our own home design plus a series of fantastic black collected in Houzz.com

Enjoy!
